Campers Night
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
(Note: this game was made within three weeks as an attempt to learn how to make 3D art and games. If you come across an issue, please post them in the comment section below, along with a screenshot or a video, if at all possible.)
Summary
A group of campers find themselves trapped in a cursed forest teeming with hostile creatures. Armed with only a woodcutting axe and a roaring campfire, they must find a way to survive until the break of daylight.
Gameplay Tips
- This game can be played and completed all by your lonesome but to make things easier, you can add up to three computer-controlled campers that will help you slay monsters and keep your campfire alive!
- Chop down trees to harvest logs. These essential items can be used to upgrade your gear, or to extend the duration of your campfire.
- The remaining time before sunrise is displayed on the top-left corner of the screen. Normally, it takes about 8 minutes to reach sunrise, however, if the 'Longer Nights' option is enabled, it will be extended to 30 minutes.
- Through the course of the night, the amount of monsters that spawn increases. Additionally, when the 'Longer Nights' option is enabled, these monsters will gain additional health and attack power regardless of the player's upgrade level.
- Monsters will make a distinct noise before attacking. Use this signal as a cue to get away or to move to an optimal position and perform a counter-attack!
- Surviving the night rewards the player with an extra 15,550 points.
Controls
(For the best experience, I suggest playing this game on a controller.)
Action | Keyboard + Mouse | Controller |
Walk | W/A/S/D | Left Stick |
Run | Shift (Hold) | L3 or Circle (Hold) |
Attack/Use | E/X/F or Left Mouse Button | Square |
Dash/Dodge | Spacebar or Right Mouse Button | X |
Throw | Z or Middle Mouse Button | Triangle |
Improving Performance
Not everyone's computers are put together the exact same way, and thus player experience may vary depending on whatever combination you have as your setup.
(If the game isn't running smoothly on your computer, here are some common tricks to make it somewhat playable.)
- Try messing around with the 'video scale' slider. As implied by its name, it controls how big the 3D scene is rendered before being displayed on your screen, the lower it is, the less work your GPU has to do between frames.
- Try setting the window mode to 'fullscreen'.
- Try unchecking the 'draw grass blades' option. By enabling this, the game will not draw animated grass on the screen anymore. This option may have a drastic impact on performance in certain setups.
- Try unchecking the 'smooth edges' option. You may notice more jagged edges on some objects, but it could be a massive help to increasing performance in certain configurations.
